Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, announced on Saturday (Feb. 28) that Israel launched a preemptive attack on Iran aimed at neutralizing threats against the country’s security.
Al Jazeera reported that several missiles struck University Street and the Jomhouri area in Tehran, with smoke seen rising across the city. The strikes reportedly occurred near offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
After the attacks began, warning sirens sounded across Israel, signaling heightened alert across the country.
The attack comes just two days after the third round of talks between Israel and Iran ended in Geneva, Switzerland. The next round of talks was scheduled for next week in Austria.
