India is hosting the five-day AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the event today (Monday, Feb.16).
The summit aims to establish a “shared roadmap for global AI governance and collaboration” at a time when artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming economies, industries and job markets worldwide.
According to Al Jazeera, about 250,000 participants are expected to attend, including heads of state, ministers and leading technology executives. India is using the event to position itself as a bridge between advanced economies and the Global South, highlighting its growing role in the global tech landscape.
Organized around the themes of “people, progress and planet,” the summit promotes AI as a tool for inclusive growth and a sustainable future. Indian leaders say the goal is to ensure the technology benefits humanity while also supporting economic development.
Top executives from companies such as Google, Qualcomm, OpenAI and Microsoft are expected to attend, showing that the event goes beyond just AI safety and looks at innovation, governance and global cooperation.
The summit was previously held in France, United Kingdom and South Korea. While it is unlikely to produce a binding agreement, the summit may conclude with a nonbinding declaration, with discussions centered on finding the right balance between strong safeguards and continued innovation.
