Exploring AI through curiosity: Hadi’s experience

I’m Hadi Hadi, a computer science student at a private university in Kabul. I’m also preparing for the TOEFL exam at a well-known language center. My first encounter with Artificial Intelligence (AI) came in a familiar, everyday way—through social media and the digital world.

While browsing YouTube and Instagram, I started seeing posts about AI—its rise, its role in daily life, and its use in education. At first, it felt like something from the future—new, almost unbelievable, and a little scary. This mix of curiosity and excitement drew me in.

Before using AI, I imagined it as a complex and almost frightening technology from science fiction, something meant only for scientists, programmers, or large companies. I never thought it could be part of my personal life or learning; instead, I believed this technology would either save the world or threaten it.

About a year ago, I started using AI for simple tasks—searching for information, translating short texts, and getting answers to general questions. I didn’t expect much beyond that.

But over time, my view changed. The more I used AI, the more I saw its potential. It became a regular part of my learning. Today, AI helps me understand difficult topics, learn languages, and find answers quickly and clearly. It saves me time and makes learning much easier.

I don’t see AI as a replacement for human creativity. It’s a powerful tool, and its value depends on how we use it. My advice to young people starting with AI is simple: use it responsibly, purposefully, and wisely. The future belongs to those who understand technology and use it smartly, not to those who fear it.
