Surge in militancy attacks in Pakistan reaches 10-year high in March 2025

MONITORING (SW) – According to a report released by the Pakistan Institute of Conflict and Security Studies, the wave of militant violence in the country reached its highest level in a decade during March 2025.

Based on the data from the Institute, 105 militant attacks occurred in March, resulting in 228 deaths and 258 injuries.

The Pakistani newspaper Dawn, on Thursday, April 3, quoted the report stating that the majority of these attacks occurred in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Dawn report also mentions that the frequency of security-related attacks has intensified, with the number of militant attacks surpassing 100 for the first time since November 2014.

The Pakistan Institute of Conflict and Security Studies further added that, in March 2025, at least 228 people were killed, including 73 security personnel, 67 civilians, and 88 militants in attacks carried out by insurgents.

Additionally, 258 people, including 129 security forces, were wounded.

The report also highlighted that six suicide attacks occurred in March, marking the highest number in a single month in recent years.

These attacks led to 59 deaths and 94 injuries.

Overall, the report stated that during March 2025, a total of 335 people were killed in clashes between militants and Pakistani security forces, including 86 security personnel, 78 civilians, and 171 militants.

In recent years, Pakistan has witnessed an unprecedented rise in security-related attacks, with a sharp increase in militant violence.
