UNAMA’s mission in Afghanistan prolonged for another year

MONITORING (SW) – The United Nations Security Council on Monday, unanimously approved a resolution to extend the mission of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for another year.

In the vote, all 15 permanent and non-permanent members of the UN Security Council voted in favor of extending the mission.

On Saturday, the Security Council had announced through a report that a vote would be held on Monday, March 17 , 2025, regarding the draft resolution to extend the UNAMA mission in Afghanistan.

The council stated that with the extension, UNAMA’s mission will continue until March 17, 2026.

Previously, Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, criticized UNAMA, stressing that the mission has been unsuccessful in Afghanistan.

Mujahid added that UNAMA has created a “wrong perception” of the country by spreading negative reports about Afghanistan.
