Torkham border gate reopens for passenger traffic after nearly a month

JALALABAD (SW) – Local officials in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan have confirmed that the Torkham border gate has reopened to allow the movement of people.

Sayed Tayeb Hemad, spokesman for the Nangarhar Police Command, told Salam Watandar that the Torkham border gate opened at around 8:00 AM on Saturday, March 22, for the passage of patients and other travelers.

The Torkham gate, which had been closed for nearly a month, was only reopened for cargo trucks on Wednesday afternoon.

Pakistani authorities, in a meeting with Abdul Jabbar Hekmat, the Islamic Emirate’s commissioner in Torkham, agreed on Wednesday to reopen the border gate fully, without any restrictions, for the passage of all kinds of traffic
