MONITORING (SW) – On Monday, a meeting was held in Torkham between Afghan and Pakistani traders and tribal leaders to discuss the reopening of the Torkham border crossing. Both sides agreed on the reopening of the border.

Sediqullah Quraishi, the head of the Information Department of the Nangarhar Directorate of Information and Culture, said that based on the agreement, both parties are required to propose a special plan to their governments to ensure that the Torkham gate remains open for transit even during political disputes between the two countries.

The meeting took place around 11:00 AM in Torkham, where Afghan and Pakistani traders and tribal elders gathered to discuss the border reopening.

Both sides agreed that once their decisions are shared with their governments, the crossing may open on Tuesday, March 18.

According to Quraishi, officials from the Islamic Emirate share the same view, ensuring that the Torkham border will not be closed for traffic during times of political conflict between the two countries.

Earlier on Monday, Shakerullah Safi, the executive director of the Nangarhar Chamber of Commerce and Investment, announced that a second meeting would take place between Afghan and Pakistani traders and tribal elders for the reopening of the Torkham border, on the Afghan side of the Durand Line.
