HERAT CITY (SW) – Authorities from the Herat Calligraphy Association have announced that, for the first time, a permanent calligraphy exhibition was opened on Wednesday, in collaboration with the Directorate of Information and Culture at the historic Qala-e-Ikhtyaruddin in the province.
Abdul Jalil Tawana, head of the Herat Calligraphy Association, stated that more than 40 calligraphic works are being displayed at this permanent exhibition.
According to him, these works include various forms of Islamic calligraphy and handwriting.
Tawana added that every three months, the calligraphy pieces in the exhibition will be updated and replaced with new works.
On the other hand, Hamidullah Ghiyasi, Director of Culture and Arts at the directorate, emphasized that the de-facto government has several programs in place to support artists.
Qala-e-Ikhtyaruddin, one of Afghanistan’s famous and historic sites, is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
