The Afghanistan National Standards Authority (ANSA) under the Islamic Emirate has signed a memorandum of understanding with the consulting organization “Lima”, aimed to prevent energy waste in buildings.
Faizullah Tamim, the head of the ANSA, emphasized during the signing ceremony in Kabul that ignoring standards in construction leads to increased energy consumption and waste, causing significant harm to the environment.
He stressed that implementing the provisions of this memorandum would help prevent energy loss in buildings and protect the environment. “Since energy plays a crucial role in a country’s self-sufficiency and development, its waste is a major challenge for construction and infrastructure,” he added.
Officials from the Lima consulting organization stated that, under this agreement, efforts will be made to build capacity for implementing energy waste prevention standards in buildings.
Mohammad Omar Temori, head of the organization, explained: “For example, if we consider a block of 40 apartments, the cost of implementing this program for that block would be $500. We will build capacity to ensure engineers understand the value of this work.”
Meanwhile, energy expert Masi Sharifi pointed out that implementing energy-saving standards requires more complex designs and the use of modern technologies. He added that these standards could also help reduce air pollution.
“To conserve energy and prevent waste in buildings, we use insulation, which not only improves the effectiveness of construction materials but also contributes to protecting the environment,” he said.
According to the National Standards Authority, since the return of the Islamic Emirate to power in Afghanistan, 800 standards have been established in various sectors across the country.
