The ‘Shah Wa Arus’ dam has been officially inaugurated with the capacity to store over 9 million cubic meters of water, which will help irrigate more than 3,000 hectares of land in Kabul.
Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, attended the opening ceremony in the Shakar Dara district of Kabul, stating that the dam plays an important role in the economy of the people, providing energy and significantly improving economic conditions.
At the same event, Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Deputy Administrative Head of the Islamic Emirate’s Office of the Prime Minister, also highlighted the Islamic Emirate’s efforts in constructing water dams and managing the country’s water resources.
He further noted: “1.2 megawatts of electricity will be produced through this dam, and it will also control floods. Over the past three years of the Islamic Emirate’s rule, significant steps have been taken to control and manage the country’s water resources.”
Abdul Latif Mansour, the Acting Minister of Water and Energy of the de-facto government reported that more than 52 million dollars were invested in the construction of the Shah Wa Arus dam. “The dam will store 9 million cubic meters of water and provide drinking water to 20,000 families.”
The construction of the Shah Wa Arus dam was carried out by engineers and specialists from an Iranian construction company. Saifullah Najafi, the head of the Iranian construction company, explained that, in addition to executing the project, technical workers have been trained for the dam’s maintenance.
It is worth noting that the construction of the Shah Wa Arus dam began in 2012, but due to several delays, work was repeatedly started and halted. The project was finally completed and inaugurated in January 2024.
