Abdul Bari Omar, the CEO of power utility Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) under the Islamic Emirate, has announced the launch of 13 new power generation projects aimed at increasing electricity production from domestic sources.
In a statement posted on his X account, Omar mentioned that these projects are set to be inaugurated within the next one to two months.
The statement reads: “With the increase in domestic electricity production and the opening of major projects, we will have good news for the citizens in the next month or two.”
Electricity shortages and limited access to power have long been ongoing challenges in Afghanistan, making daily life difficult for citizens.
Currently, Afghanistan imports nearly 80% of its electricity from neighboring countries such as Iran, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, while only 38% of its population has access to electricity.
