The Afghan Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, has announced that the country’s police have arrested nearly 800 Afghan migrants.
In a statement released on Sunday, on its official X account, the embassy mentioned that some of the detainees possess valid residency documents.
The statement reads: “Among the detained individuals, 137 have expired visas but had previously applied for an extension. Additionally, holders of temporary registration cards (SHARP/UNHCR) are also among those being deported. The Embassy of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is deeply concerned about unnecessary arrests, house searches, and the extortion of Afghan nationals.”
The Afghan Embassy in Islamabad -under the control of the Islamic Emirate- emphasized that the lack of clarity regarding the process of obtaining a “NOC” (No Objection Certificate) has led to the arbitrary arrest and deportation of Afghan migrants.
The embassy has called on Pakistan, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and other human rights organizations to urgently address concerns regarding the detention of Afghan migrants.
In the past week, various media outlets have reported that the Pakistani police have detained a number of Afghan migrants in Islamabad.
