Uzbekistan seeks to strengthen economic ties with Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – Uzbekistan is seeking to strengthen its economic ties with Afghanistan, according to officials following a meeting with representatives of the Islamic Emirate.

Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Nigmatovich Aripov emphasized his country’s interest in extracting minerals and facilitating the transit of Afghan goods to other countries.

The Uzbekistani presidential office’s X account on Sunday, December 1, stated that Aripov discussed these topics during a meeting with Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate for Administrative Affairs.

Aripov stressed the importance of implementing the Afghanistan-Uzbekistan (Afghan-Trans) railway project.

On the other hand, Jamshid Khodjaev, the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, mentioned that his country is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in areas such as trade, agricultural development, and easing the transportation of goods.

During the meetings, Abdul Salam Hanafi, reiterated that the de-facto Afghan government is eager to expand cooperation with Uzbekistan in various sectors.

Hanafi had traveled to Uzbekistan on Saturday, November 30, at the head of a high-level delegation.
