KABUL (SW) – The spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, Zabihullah Mujahid has dispelled rumors about closing down visual media in Afghanistan.
Officials of several media outlets and representatives of media support organizations raised concerns on Wednesday, November 13, during a meeting with Zabihullah Mujahid about the possible closure of TV stations in the country.
During this meeting, media officials emphasized the importance of the role of media in the current sensitive situation and asked the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate to pay attention to their concerns.
Mujahid, in this meeting, while expressing his efforts to prevent restrictions on media, assured that TV stations across Afghanistan will not be closed.
He urged media owners to continue their activities with more motivation and determination so that the real needs and achievements are reflected.
Mujahid also referred to the existing misunderstandings about the law of “Amr-e-Bil Ma’ruf” (Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice), especially regarding “voice and image,” and emphasized that the interpretations of this law are still under review.
He also considered access to information as a fundamental right of the media and stressed that government spokespersons are obliged to provide necessary information to the media in a timely manner.
According to Mujahid, in the coming days, a delegation of officials from the Islamic Emirate, including the Ministry of Information and Culture and some other institutions, will meet with the leader of the Islamic Emirate to share the concerns and demands of media representatives
This meeting brought hopes for strengthening relationships and cooperation between the media and government institutions.
