KABUL (SW) – The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Afghanistan has stated that 1 in 3 Afghans are facing food insecurity, exacerbated by climate shocks and ongoing economic instability.
In a post on its X account, FAO has reiterated that “the right to food is a fundamental human right”, emphasizing the urgent need for action to combat food insecurity.
In Afghanistan, however, the situation is dire and these challenges have created a critical need for sustainable solutions that empower local farmers and creating job opportunities.
The FAO highlights that supporting Afghan farmers is essential not only for their livelihoods but also for ensuring food security for their families and communities.
By providing resources and training, the international community can help these farmers adapt to changing conditions and improve agricultural productivity.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) designated October 16, as World Food Day in 1979. The aim of the day is to promote global awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger, and to highlight the need to ensure healthy diets for all.
