MONITORING (SW) – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Afghanistan has announced that it requires 677 million dollars in immediate funding to continue its operations in the country over the next six months.
The WFP’s call for financial support comes at a time that over 12 million people in the country are uncertain about where their next meal will come from.
In a statement released on Tuesday, September 17, on X platform, the WFP highlighted that nearly 4 million children, infants, and breastfeeding mothers in Afghanistan are suffering from malnutrition.
Previously, United Nations agencies had reported that 23.7 million people, including 12.3 million children, require humanitarian aid this year.
Earlier, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Afghanistan indicated that 3.6 billion dollars is needed to support those in need, yet only 25% of the requested funds have been received.
