Russia extends invitation to FM Muttaqi for ‘Moscow Format’ summit

KABUL (SW) – Dmitry Aleksandrovich Zhirnov, Russia’s ambassador in Kabul, has stated that establishing relations with the de-facto Islamic Emirate government is important for his country.

Zhirnov raised this matter during a meeting with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting minister for foreign affairs of the Islamic Emirate, according to statement released on Wednesday, September 18, by Zia Ahmad Takal, MoFA deputy spokesperson.

Citing Zhirnov, the statement added that Russia invites representatives of the Islamic Emirate to all regional and international meetings hosted by Russia.

The statement indicated that the Russian ambassador invited Amir Khan Muttaqi to participate in the upcoming Moscow Format meeting.

In response, Muttaqi expressed a positive outlook regarding the event, noting that the upcoming meeting will provide an opportunity for bilateral discussions between Afghanistan and Russia, as well as with representatives from regional countries.

The exact timing for the sixth Moscow Format meeting remains unclear.

The fifth meeting took place in October 2023, in Kazan, Russia, featuring participation from Amir Khan Muttaqi and representatives from Iran, Pakistan, China, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
