KABUL (SW) – According to officials from the de-facto Ministry of Education (MoE), more than 3.6 million individuals are currently engaged in Islamic education across Afghanistan.
This comes as part of a broader initiative to expand Islamic learning facilities throughout the country.
In the past year, the Ministry of Education established a total of 21,257 Islamic educational centers. This includes 19,669 madrasas (religious schools), 1,277 Dar al-Hafez (the “Holy Quran” memorization centers), 115 Dar al- Ulum (Islamic seminaries centers), and 39 orphanages.
During a program on Wednesday, September 11, outlining the annual achievements of the Ministry, officials highlighted that over 33,000 religious scholars were examined over the past year.
Karamatullah Akhundzada, Deputy Minister for Islamic Education of the MoE, stated, that exams were conducted for religious scholars at various levels, to assess their academic proficiency. “Out of these, 21,300 scholars passed, while the remaining results were inconclusive.”
In addition to the expansion of Islamic education facilities, the Ministry of Education reported the construction of 316 schools, the printing of over 16 million books, and the resolution of 3,570 complaints as part of their yearly achievements.
