Islamic Emirate lacks resources to combat narcotics, says Haqqani

KABUL (SW) – Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Acting Minister for Interior Affairs of the de-facto Islamic Emirate government, has said more resources and funds are needed to combat narcotics.

In a statement released via the Presidential Palace’s (ARG) X account, Haqqani addressed these challenges during the inaugural meeting of the “High Commission for the Fight Against Drugs and Alcohol” on Saturday, September 7.

He emphasized the need for international support in drug eradication efforts and called for alternative livelihood programs for farmers involved in drug cultivation.

On the other hand, Noor Jalal Jalali, Acting Minister of Public Health, reported that over the past three years, 14,000 drug addicts have received treatment at addiction recovery centers.

However, he highlighted that the lack of funding, infrastructure, medical staff, and large health centers at the zone level has complicated the provision of addiction treatment services.

Additionally, Mohammad Abdul Kabir, Deputy Political Head of the Islamic Emirate, has urged the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in eradicating drugs and providing alternative cultivation options to farmers.

The Islamic Emirate authorities also announced that the High Commission for the Fight Against Drugs and Alcohol has begun its work, focusing on coordinating drug control efforts and implementing targeted actions in this area.
