KABUL (SW) – In the past one year, there have been at least 40,016 overflights through Afghanistan’s airspace, according to officials from the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
On Monday, officials reported that over 1.89 million passengers were transported through 12,503 flights through Afghanistan’s airports. During the annual performance review press conference held in Kabul, officials noted that there has been an increase in overflights compared to the previous year.
Additionally, the ministry revealed that 547,038 freight trucks traveled from Afghanistan to Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Iran, and Pakistan, while 434,709 freight trucks from the neighbouring countries and the region entered Afghanistan over the past year.
The ministry’s annual report also highlighted the completion of 18 development projects and the launch of 66 training programs aimed at enhancing the capacity of its staff.
As per the officials, the key achievements in the past year include upgrading Khost Airport to an international status, facilitating Afghan pilgrims’ travel from Saudi Arabia, repatriating returnees to their home provinces, and providing services to several airlines.
