Mujahid plays down concerns regarding new morality laws

KABUL (SW) – Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson of the de-facto government of the Islamic Emirate, has played down concerns regarding the new set of laws ratified by Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (MoPVPV).

He noted in a statement posted on his X account late on Monday, that the law was arranged in the light of reliable and accepted sources of jurisprudence and does not impose restrictions on any person.

Mujahid added: “If any non-Muslim is concerned about these laws and rejects them, they should first inform themselves about Islamic laws and respect Islamic values.”

The spokesperson of the de-facto government has emphasized that the Islamic Emirate considers the protests about the Islamic Sharia as “arrogant”.

He noted: “We consider this kind of protest against Islamic Sharia as their arrogance. Muslims should inform themselves about these laws, which are Sharia rules, and ask their scholars about this. Rejecting or criticizing these laws by a Muslim means ignorance of religion and even risks the decline of faith.”

On Thursday, August 22, the Ministry of Justice of the de-facto government announced that law by the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice with four chapters and 35 articles is approved by the leader of the Islamic Emirate and is applicable throughout Afghanistan.

Following the publication of this news, a number of countries and international institutions, including the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), reacted to the promulgation of this law and said they are worried about its implementation.
