Germany examining whether any available mpox vaccines could be donated

MONITORING (SW) – The German government is currently examining whether any available national monkey pox (Mpox) vaccine doses could be donated, the health ministry said in a status report for August seen by Reuters on Friday.

International aid measures, such as donations from the European Commission, are underway, though details need to be clarified both in Europe and locally, added the ministry.

Monkey pox cases have been reported in Pakistan, Sweden, and Africa.

The World Health Organization has declared the monkey pox outbreak a public health emergency and noted that a new strain of the virus is spreading.

University professors highlighted that monkeypox is a contagious disease that spreads through direct contact between individuals. They said that key symptoms include severe pain, joint discomfort, and shortness of breath.

Habib Al-Rahman Masoud, head of the university’s medical faculty in Kabul, Afghanistan, explained, “Monkey pox is a viral disease that spreads from person to person. It initially appeared in animals before being transmitted to humans.”
