MONITORING (SW) – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has highlighted a dire situation among women and children in Afghanistan, as over 1 million have lost access to crucial nutrition assistance.

This alarming development, announced by WFP on Monday, is attributed to a significant funding shortfall.

WFP has issued a stark warning that without immediate and substantial funding, the situation will deteriorate further, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.

According to WFP, the impact of these aid cuts is most severe for women in Afghanistan, who are already facing dwindling opportunities for sustenance and economic stability.

In a video posted on the WFP’s official X account, the organization highlighted the escalating crisis: “In Afghanistan, it is women who bear the brunt with shrinking options to make a living.”

The organization also emphasized that the crisis has already left 4 million mothers and children malnourished.
