KABUL (SW) – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Afghanistan says it has provided emergency food to more than 260,000 people in the country in the past nine months.
The agency said in a report on its website late on Monday that the aid was distributed in Badghis, Bamyan, Farah, Ghor, Helmand, Herat, Kabul, Kandahar, Kapisa, Khost, Kunar, Laghman, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Paktia and Uruzgan provinces.
The WFP stated that it had distributed nearly 4,000 metric tons of food, including enriched wheat flour, yellow peas, enriched vegetable oil and salt to the needy.
“WFP prioritizes a number of the most vulnerable families, including unaccompanied women, families with nine or more members, including adults or people with disabilities, displaced families and people borrowing to survive,” the report said.
The World Food Programme further mentioned that the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund (AHTF) has paid $3.2 million for the aid.
According to the United Nations, last year, the UN helped 18.6 million people in Afghanistan, including 9.3 million women and 11 million children.
