TAPI in spotlight as Muttaqi meets Turkmenistan ambassador

KABUL (SW) – Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting minister of foreign affairs of the de-fecto government, has said that the implementation of the TAPI project is one of the priorities of the Islamic Emirate and the practical work of this project will begin in Afghanistan in the near future.

Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesman of the ministry of foreign affairs of the Islamic Emirate, wrote in a statement posted on X that Muttaqi raised this issue in a meeting with Khawaja Awadov, the ambassador of Turkmenistan in Kabul.

Takal added that Khawaja Awadov shared updates about the latest developments regarding the practical work of the TAPI project in this meeting.

In this statement, it is stated that during this meeting, they also discussed the expansion of diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

On the other hand, Turkmenistan and Pakistan have agreed to pursue the TAPI project with the participation of Afghanistan.

Earlier, the ministry of mines and petroleum had announced that after solving the legal problems of the TAPI project, the practical work of this project will be resumed in Afghanistan.

TAPI is a project to transfer natural gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan and India through Afghanistan. This project was inaugurated in 2016 by the leaders of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, but due to a series of regional obstacles and the change of the political system in Afghanistan, this project has not been implemented until now.
