Islamic Emirate declares Afghan consular services in EU countries as “invalid”

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the de-facto Islamic Emirate government has announced that consular services provided by several Afghan diplomatic missions in European countries are conducted without coordination with Kabul and are therefore invalid.

The ministry stated on Tuesday in a press release on its X account that it has repeatedly asked Afghan diplomatic missions in European countries to collaborate with the ministry to provide better consular services to Afghan citizens, but these requests have been ignored.

The press release noted: “From now on, consular services such as document authentication, certification, no-objection certificates, passport issuance, passport extension stickers, visa stickers, and other related services provided by the embassies in London, Belgium, Berlin, Bonn, Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Greece, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Canada, and Australia will not be recognized by Kabul and the relevant authorities.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate added that it will not be responsible for documents issued by these missions.

The ministry has urged Afghan citizens in these 13 countries to seek consular services from the Islamic Emirate’s diplomatic missions in other countries.

Over the past three years, many Afghan diplomatic missions in the region have been handed over to the Islamic Emirate.

The Afghan embassies in the Netherlands and Spain however remain the only diplomatic missions in Europe that coordinate consular services with the Islamic Emirate in Kabul.
