Tamadon TV’s broadcast suspension delayed until Saturday

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Justice of the Islamic Emirate has announced the suspension of Tamadon TV’s operations due to its affiliation with a political party and its use of illegally acquired land.

Barakatullah Rasuli, spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice, stated in an official announcement that all political party activities were previously banned by the ministry, and consequently, media outlets linked to these parties are not permitted to operate.

“Tamadon TV, along with Khatam al-Nabiyin Madrasa and University, is affiliated with the dissolved Islamic Movement Party of Afghanistan, and their buildings are on land that was seized from the government. Therefore, the operations of these three entities will be halted, and their offices will be closed by the Ministry of Justice,” Rasuli explained.

On Thursday, a delegation from the Ministry of Justice visited the office of Tamadon TV to enforce the suspension, but the decision was postponed until Saturday.

On the other hand, Mohammad Jawad Mohseni, director of Tamadon TV and senior license holder of Khatam al-Nabiyin University, has denied the claims of political affiliation and land seizure.

He clarified that Tamadon TV and Khatam al-Nabiyin University were established after Mohammad Asif Mohseni resigned from the Islamic Movement Party in 2005.

“The land on which Tamadon TV is built was purchased from a private owner and has valid legal and religious deeds. It has never been government land,” Mohseni asserted.

Mohseni also mentioned that the land for the Khatam al-Nabiyin seminary was provided to his father, Mohammad Asif Mohseni, during the previous administration for building a school for religious scholars, and they possess all necessary legal and religious documentation. He added that Khatam al-Nabiyin University operates in a rented building.

The director of Tamadon TV called on the Islamic Emirate and the Ministry of Justice to appoint an impartial committee to review the documents of the three institutions.
