Over 2,000 Afghan nationals deported from Iran, Pakistan in single day

KABUL (SW) – Over 1,773 Afghan migrants were forcibly or voluntarily deported through the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat province, and additional 324 migrants were forcibly expelled through the Spin Buldak border crossing in Kandahar province, in the past day.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Repatriations and Refugees (MoRR) on Sunday, 240 of those who were repatriated from Iran and all who were returned through the Spin Buldak crossing border, have received assistance.

Migrants returning from Iran and Pakistan are urging the de-facto government of the Islamic Emirate to create job opportunities and provide shelter for them.

Obaid, a resident of Herat who was forcibly returned from Iran, called on the de-facto government to generate employment opportunities for young people. He said, “We urge the government to create jobs in the country so that we don’t have to go to Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey.”

Samiullah, a resident of Nangarhar province who was forcibly deported from Pakistan, requested that the Islamic Emirate provide permanent shelter for him and his family. “We ask the government to give us land to build on and also provide job opportunities.”

Previously, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that over 1.5 million Afghan migrants have returned from Iran and Pakistan, either voluntarily or forcibly, in the first four months of the year 2024.
