Japan sponsors building 18 new schools in Paktia

GARDEZ CITY (SW) – The work on building 18 schools in Gardez the central of Paktia, and 13 districts of the province has begun with financial assistance from Japan and collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

Abdul Qayum Farooqi, the head of education directorate in Paktia, states that the building of these schools costs 225 million Afghanis.

According to him, currently, 60% of the schools in Paktia province lack buildings, and students face many challenges during their learning process.

Hussain, a resident of Gardez city, mentions that due to the lack of buildings in Paktia’s schools, students receive education in empty houses.

He urges the education authorities to not only focus on building and repairing schools but also to employ professional teachers and provide complete textbooks to students.

Abedullah, another resident of Paktia, also highlights that due to the absence of school buildings in their area, students are deprived of education during rainy and stormy weather.

According to information from the education authorities in Paktia, there are 370 public schools active in this province, among which 183 schools lack buildings, and several other school buildings require reconstruction.
