Kapisa residents faced with spreading mental illnesses

CHARIKAAR (SW) – Kapisa residents say that the number of people suffering from mental illnesses has increased in this province.

Ahmadzaki, a resident of Kapisa, who brought his uncle to the provincial hospital of this province to see a psychiatrist, said that he is suffering from severe depression.

Ahmadzaki says: “These problems have become more common in the region. My uncle doesn’t sleep or eat, he does different things and his mental anxiety has increased. Clients are of different ages, especially adults, men and women. People have economic problems, they cannot go to private hospitals and solve their problems.”

Muzamel, another resident of Kapisa, said that his mother has no sleep or appetite, and that’s why he brought her to a psychiatrist. Muzamel added that there is a shortage of psychiatrists in Kapisa provincial hospital and he asks the government to increase the number of male and female psychiatrists in this hospital.

He added: “My mother is very anxious and irritable, she has no sleep or food. In the center of Kapisa, there are few doctors and there is no medicine. My request to the government is to appoint mental and neurological specialist doctors from the men’s and women’s departments at Kapisa Central Hospital.

According to doctors, the increase in patients’ visits to psychiatrists indicates the increase in public awareness and their trust in the health sector.

Jamshid Rasa, a psychiatrist, said that mental disorders are different in men and women. According to him, the imposition of restrictions in different sectors, unemployment and bad economic situation are important factors for a person to suffer from mental illnesses.

Rasa added: “Recently, the number of visitors has increased. Biological, psychological and social factors can cause psychological problems, people’s knowledge has also increased; In the past, going to the doctor was considered a problem for mental health, poverty, lack of work, studies, challenges in progress and family problems are factors that can increase mental problems.”

However, Kapisa Public Health Department officials say that the number of people suffering from mental illnesses in this province has decreased compared to last year.

Lalagol Qadri, the head of the media department of this department, says: “There are four mental health doctors in Kapisa provincial hospital. There is a counselor in each district, 12 thousand 653 people visited the provincial hospital in 1401, most of them had mental illnesses, and in the first six months of this year, 5 thousand 66 mental patients visited, which showed a decrease compared to last year.”

According to psychiatrists, planning for daily activities, creating entertainment and organizing life can prevent people from suffering from mental illnesses.
