Muttaqi leaves for Russia to attend ‘Moscow Format’ meeting

KABUL (SW) – Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amir Khan Muttaqi, has left for Russia to take part in the Moscow Format meeting.

The deputy spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zia Ahmad Takal, said on Twitter that Amir Khan Muttaqi went on the trip at the official invitation of Russia to participate in the Moscow format meeting. Dmitry Zhirnov, the Russian ambassador in Kabul, more than two months ago, during his meeting with Muttaqi, invited him to participate in the Moscow format meeting, he said.

He said Amir Khan Muttaqi will spend two days in Moscow and then go to Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan.

He noted: “A delegation headed by Amir Khan Muttaqi went to this country at the official invitation of the Russian Federation to participate in the Moscow Format meeting. The Afghan delegation will stay in Moscow for two days and then go to Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, where the Moscow format meeting will be held on September 29 of this year.”

The process of “Moscow Format” consultative meetings about the situation in Afghanistan began in 2017. In this group, senior officials from China, India, Pakistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan are present.

The Moscow Format meeting was held last year without the presence of the representative of the Islamic Emirate, but in 2021, the representative of the Islamic Emirate was present.
