Sar-e-Pol residents demand domestic utilisation of mining revenues

SAR-E-POL (SW) – A number of residents of Sar-e-Pol say that employment opportunities should be created for the residents of this province and youths should be prevented from going abroad.

They told Salam Watandar that although hundreds of tons of oil and coal are produced in this province, but according to them, the revenue is not spent on the development projects of this province and its youth are unemployed. They insist that a part of the revenue received from these mines should be spent on the development of Sar-e-Pol and providing job opportunities to the youth.

Amanullah, a resident of the province, while criticizing the government, said that concrete steps should be taken to provide job opportunities to the youth of this province. He said: “We want the government to invest the revenue of the Qashqari mine in providing job opportunities to the youth.”
Hayatullah, another resident of the province, also said that the youth of this province need the government’s support more than ever. “Compared to other provinces, the government receives more revenue from here and the revenue it receives should be spent on the development of this province.”

On the other hand, head of the director of information and culture says that hundreds of youths will be provided with employment in the Qashqari oil extraction project and according to him, efforts are being made to implement incomplete development projects in this province. Fakhruddin Umair Sarpoli also added that he has provided opportunities for youth to work in different fields. He said: “Hundreds of tons of oil are extracted and refined from the Qashqari wells every day, and the revenue goes to the company and the government. Hundreds of young people have been given jobs and the recruitment is still ongoing.”

A number of experts believe that the mines provide a large part of the government’s revenue and according to them, the development of these mines will lead to the economic growth of the country. Pashtun Yar, an economic expert, said: “We are talking about oil and coal mines, which play an important role in the country’s economic growth. It is used in all areas.”
