KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Public Health celebrated International Breastfeeding Week here on Monday.
The officials of this ministry asked all the mothers to feed their newborn children with their own milk for up to two years.
Habibullah Akhundzada, the deputy of the Ministry of Public Health, said that he is trying to encourage mothers to give their children their own milk instead of other powdered milk.
At the same time, a number of doctors said in this meeting that giving breast milk to a child up to two years strengthens the immune system and saves the child from various diseases throughout the life.
On the other hand, Haider Khan Haider, director of preventive medicine of the Ministry of Public Health, said that breastfeeding a child, among other benefits, also reduces the death rate of children. According to him, if a child is not given mother’s milk, it will not only suffer from various diseases, but it could also cause death. He added: “Mothers should give their milk for the first six months of the child’s birth. It reduces the risk of death.”
It should be noted that the first week of August is celebrated every year as Breastfeeding Week in many countries of the world, the purpose of which is to encourage mothers to breastfeed their babies.
