850 new teachers recruited in government universities

KABUL (SW) – Officials of the Ministry of Higher Education say that 850 new teachers were recruited in government universities last year, including 550 teachers of Islamic culture.

Officials of the Ministry made these statements while presenting their annual report at the national accountability program. Deputy minister Lutfullah Khairkhah, said in this program that religious sciences were taught less in universities before, but according to him, with the increase in the credit of Islamic culture, the number of teachers has also increased.

He said: “We have 6,000 teacher positions in Afghanistan, of which 200 to 250 teachers have gone abroad, and recently we have recruited 850 teachers to government universities, of which 550 are culture teachers.”

Khairkhah added that last year, 239 academic staff of the Ministry of Higher Education, of which 158 were for master’s degree and 81 for doctorate, went abroad. According to the officials of the ministry, in the last one year, according to the need, 29 faculties, 64 departments and 24 night programs have been established in the state universities.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Higher Education Ziaullah Hashmi said in this program that the government has created domestic and foreign journals for the articles of a number of teachers. He said: “For the standard publication of articles, seven international journals and 33 national journals have been established, as a result of which 807 articles have been published in foreign journals and 1550 articles in national journals.”

According to him, last year, nine doctoral and 40 master’s programs were established in the country. According to the Ministry of Higher Education, there are currently 471,360 students studying in the country’s universities, of which 118,000 were enrolled last year and 724,000 graduated from the universities.
