62,000 security cameras installed in Kabul

KABUL (SW) – Officials of the Ministry of Interior say that so far 62 thousand security cameras have been installed and activated in different areas of Kabul to prevent crimes.

The spokesman of the ministry, Bismillah Habib, told Salam Watandar that they have arrested many criminals with the help of the security cameras. He said: “So far, 62,000 digital security cameras have been installed in Kabul city and surrounding areas, and this process will be completed as needed and all areas will be covered.”

Almost a year and a half ago, the Ministry of Interior requested the owners of houses and shops in Kabul to install security cameras.

Sadiq Shinwari, a military affairs analyst, considers the installation of security cameras to be useful in reducing criminal offenses, but adds that these cameras should be managed by professionals. He said: “If these cameras are managed on time with the help of the central office and by professionals, they can be useful in preventing crimes.”

At the same time, people are worried about armed robberies in Kabul. Safia Rezaei, a resident of Kabul’s 13th security district, says that armed robbers entered her house about a month ago and took everything from her. She adds that she installed a camera, but due to the low quality of the video, they went to her house and the thieves could not be identified. She said: “I witnessed that the high-rise building was robbed and when I checked the security camera, the quality was low and unrecognizable. Also, if there is no electricity, this camera does not work.”
