KABUL (SW) – Officials at the Prisons Reform Agency say that currently 16,000 people are incarcerated in different prisons of the country due to various crimes.
Officials at the agency made these statements while presenting their annual report at the government’s accountability program to the nation on Saturday.
While presenting the annual report, head of the Prison Affairs Reform Agency, Yusuf Mistry said that about 32,000 prisoners were handed over to this agency, and half of them were released after the decisions and drop in the number of the courts.
According to the information, 3881 people have been released and 981 prisoners have been given a discount in their prison terms.
The Prison Affairs Reform Agency also started efforts to send Afghan prisoners out of the country, but they did not provide any more information about these efforts.
At the same time, during the last one year, the delivery of drugs to prisoners in different prisons of the country has been prevented, said the officials.
