‘430 tribal feuds resolved in a year’

KABUL (SW) – Officials of the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs say that during the last one year, they have implemented 28 projects proposed by the people.

Officials of the said ministry, while presenting their annual report at the 9th “Government Accountability Program to the Nation” on Monday, said that in the past one year, the ministry has implemented 28 projects out of 108 projects proposed by the people. Most of these projects were proposed by the tribes and minorities living along the border and the Durand Line in order to solve their problems.

The head of the said ministry, Noorullah Nouri assured that he will visit all the other proposed projects as well. He said: “Based on people’s requests and suggestions, this ministry has shared 108 projects with the Ministry of State and related agencies, of which 28 are about bridges and the rest are under construction.”

Officials at the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs also said that they have established 34 “Jirga” local councils in the past year, and have resolved 130 major and 300 minor disputes that had earlier claimed at least 691 lives.

Acting Minister of Borders and Tribal Affairs Noorullah Nouri said: “23-year old conflict in Kapisa’s Najrab district, 30-year conflict in Jawzjan’s Aqcha district, 37-year conflict in Shinwari district of Nangarhar and the 91-year-old conflict in Nuristan have been resolved.”

The Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs officials also informed about surveying the 2,300 kilometers border. They said details of this study related to border violations, illegal routes and border signs and symbols are shared with the security institutions.
