CHARIKAR (SW) – The number of spiralling measles patients in Parwan has surged to 82 in Parwan province.
Nazanin, a resident of Parwan, is a mother whose child has been infected with measles and has been hospitalized in Parwan’s 100 specialized hospital for five days. She said that because her husband did not allow her child to be vaccinated, her child got measles.
Nazanin added: “First of all, my husband does not allow me to vaccinate my children. Because of this, the problem of “Sarkhakan” has arisen. He has fever, eye pain and itching. It is a very bad disease. I request my compatriots to vaccinate their children.”
Similarly, Shazia, one of the residents of the remote areas of Parwan’s Ghorband valley, whose 10-month-old baby and her 3-year-old child were infected with measles and are hospitalized in Parwan’s 100-bed specialized hospital, said: “When he got it, he coughed first, then he developed diarrhea, then he developed a fever.”
Sahar Gul, another resident of Ghorband Valley, who also admitted his child to this hospital, said that the measles disease has increased in his village, and in addition to children, adults have also been affected by this disease.
They want the health officials to start the process of implementing the measles vaccine in their village to prevent more children from getting this disease.
At the same time, Abdul Khalil Heydari, chief physician at Parwan’s 100-bed specialized hospital, tells Salam Watandar that the number of children infected with measles in this province has increased by 82% in the past 14 months. According to him, if the number of people suffering from this disease increases, they will face problems in providing medical services, medical equipment and beds.
Heydari stated that the reason for the increase in children’s measles infection is the lack of awareness of the families about this disease and the failure to apply the vaccine correctly and on time. “In the year 1400 (2020), we had 41 patients and in the year 1401 (2021), 235 patients, and also in two months of 1402 (2022), we had 25 hospitalized patients, which is very worrying.”
However, Seyar, in charge of infectious disease control in Parwan public health department, said that the measles vaccination program is available in all health centers of this province. But according to him, some families fail to receive it. “Measle outbreaks/sorkhakan outbreaks were recently in some central places and parts of Khaja Siaran in Parwan. Most of the problems are in the people themselves, despite the fact that awareness has been given through the media and public health and other institutions.”
It should be said that measles is a viral disease and if it is not controlled, it will spread quickly.
