KABUL (SW) – Kabul residents say the Kabul Municipality is increasingly getting unable to transport and clean the garbage from the streets.

A number of Kabul residents told Salam Watandar that the municipality does staff does not visit even once in a month to collect and clean the garbage.

Faheem, a resident of the 8th district of Kabul, told Salam Watandar that when the municipal people come to this area for cleaning, they take out the garbage from the gutters and pile it on the road for days. “There is a lot of garbage on the roads. The municipality collects the garbage from the gutters and leaves it on the roads until it dries. When it dries, the car passes by over it. It causes air pollution and diseases. People should cooperate with the municipality towards resolving it.”

Noor Muhammad, a shopkeeper in the eighth district of Kabul, said that although the municipality is responsible for collecting garbage, but people do not cooperate in this regard and throw their garbage on the roads. “Both the people and the Kabul municipality have an important role in the cleanliness of the city, but the problem lies in the people, when they bring their garbage, they don’t put it in the bins. Neither the people nor the municipality cares about cleanliness in this area.”

On the other hand, the spokesperson of Kabul Municipality, Nimatullah Barakzai, says that although Kabul Municipality has placed garbage bins in all areas to collect garbage, but according to him, people do not collect their garbage and throw it all over the places.

“The problem with some people who arbitrarily throw lots of garbage all over the places and put garbage where our cleaning personnel can’t find. Surveys are conducted every month about the areas that are not good about collecting garbage collection, people should not throw away their garbage and cooperate with the municipality.”

This comes as residents fear with the warming of the weather, this garbage will cause various diseases and threaten the lives of the citizens.
