KABUL CITY (SW) – A number of government institutions will sign agreements to prevent interference in press affairs, said an official.
Officials of the Ministry of Information and Culture say that they will sign agreements with the security agencies, ministry of promoting the good and prohibiting the evils, and foreign affairs ministry to prevent various government agencies from engaging in media affairs.
The spokesman of the ministry, Abdul Matin Qani, said that the Islamic Emirate is committed to supporting media activity in the country and the Ministry of Information and Culture is the only authority that is responsible for organizing media affairs and other agencies hhaveno mandate to interfere in media affairs.
Meanwhile, Hojatullah Mujadidi, the head of Afghanistan’s independent journalists’ association, says that there are still challenges facing the Afghan media and it is necessary to eliminate them.
According to him, financial problems, lack of access to information and the interference of government agencies in media affairs are the challenges that have made the media’s activities difficult. He added that due to financial problems, not a single print media is operating in the country.
Since the restoration of the Islamic Emirate, 225 visual, audio and print media have stopped functioning due to various problems.
