MONITORING (SW) – The United Nations Organization for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has said that the European Union has contributed 3 million euros to the humanitarian fund for the war-ravaged country.
On Tuesday, OCHA expressed gratitude to the European Union on its Twitter page and said that humanitarian partners can provide timely vital aid to the needy and vulnerable people in Afghanistan.
The United Nations Organization for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned in April that if the requested budget is not met for the implementation of the humanitarian aid plan in Afghanistan, millions of people will face great disaster and severe famine.
OCHA stated stated the financial resources are drying up and there is a possibility that the country will face the threat of famine never seen in the last 25 years. According to OCHA, currently nearly 20 million people in Afghanistan are facing hunger and about 6 million Afghans are one step away from famine.
OCHA lamented that by the end of this year, only 250 million dollars have been collected from the requested 4.6 billion dollars for the implementation of the humanitarian aid plan in Afghanistan.
