Neighbours gather in Tashkent to discuss Afghanistan

MONITORING (SW) – Diplomats from Afghanistan’s neighbouring countries have gathered in Tashkent, Uzbekistan to discuss situation in the country.

The meeting of the special representatives of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries started in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on Tuesday.

Representatives of Uzbekistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are present in this meeting.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said in a statement that the participants of this meeting will discuss the current situation in Afghanistan, work together to deal with the situation in this country and create long-term peace and stability. It added that the delegations of Iran, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will discuss the current situation in Afghanistan, including humanitarian aspects, and touching upon the issues of interaction between the parties to resolve the situation in the country and establish long-term peace and stability.

During the meeting, participants will determine the place and time for the second meeting of the special representatives of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, as well as exchange views on the timing of the 4th meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries in Tashkent, it added.

This ministry has not said anything about the presence of the representative of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

The authorities of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan have not said anything about this so far.

According to reports, this is the first meeting of special representatives of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries this year.
