KABUL (SW) – Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, has said the Daesh terrorist group has been suppressed in Afghanistan.

He said this on Friday in a tweet in response to the statements of the American officials about the rise in the number of Daesh militants in Afghanistan. Mr. Mujahid tweeted that the statements of the American officials about the number of Daesh militants in Afghanistan do not match the reality.

The spokesman of the Islamic Emirate said that the American officials’ “attachment” to the issue of Daesh/ ISIS and their exaggeration of this issue is helping the terrorists. “The attachment of the American officials to this issue, as well as their aggrandizement, is cooperation with the Daesh group, and the campaign in their favor should be stopped.”

Zabihullah Mujahid’s reaction comes after General Michael Kurilla, the head of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), said that ISIS in Afghanistan could target the interests of the US or other western countries in less than six months.

Following these statements, Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, said in an interview with the state-owned RTA that no group opposing the Islamic Emirate, including ISIS, is present in Afghanistan, and the perpetrators of some events come from outside.

This comes as the Daesh group has recently claimed responsibility for several deadly attacks. In one of these attacks, Mohammad Dawood Mozmal, the late governor of Balkh, and two others were killed, and in another attack by this group on a gathering of journalists in this province, three people, including two journalists, were killed and at least 16 other journalists were injured.
