Blast in Balkh causes casualties among journalists

KABUL (SW) – Local sources in Balkh told Salam Watandar that an explosion occurred in the gathering of journalists in Mazar-e-Sharif city, the capital of this province, and caused casualties.

Abdul Nafi Takour, the spokesman of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, has said that an explosion occurred at the “Tabiyan” cultural center in the second security area of Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of this province, around 11:30 a.m. today.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior added that as a result of this explosion, a guard of this center was killed and eight others, including five journalists and three children, were injured. The spokesman of the Ministry of Interior emphasized that the condition of the injured is good and the security forces have reached the place and are investigating the incident.

On the other hand, one of the doctors at the Abu Ali Sina hospital in Balkh, who did not want to reveal his identity, told Salam Watandar that 23 wounded people were transferred to this hospital from the place of the explosion.

Earlier, according to the sources, journalists were supposed to be honored in this center today and the journalists had gathered for this occasion.

Sources added that a number of journalists were present in this program and most of them got injured.

The local and security officials of Balkh have not said anything about this yet.

No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for this explosion.
