KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan has announced that nearly 80 Afghan citizens died after a small boat sank in Italy last week.

The ministry said in a statement on Tuesday evening that women and children are among the victims.

The ship sank a few days ago near the coast of Italy after hitting a rock. It is reported that the passengers of this ship were citizens of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.

Some of the survivors of this event said that this boat had 200 passengers when it left Turkey.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised citizens to refrain from traveling to other countries through illegal means.

The ministry has asked charitable organizations, especially the Red Cross, to search for and transport the bodies of drowned citizens in Italian waters to fulfill their humanitarian responsibility.
