Future of female patients and health workers at risk

KABUL (SW) – The fture of female patients and health workers is at risk in Afghanistan, warned the Médecins Sans Frontières.

The MSF has issued a statement saying that there is no official guarantee that the organization will be able to continue its work in Afghanistan without hindrance. This organization added that many women who work with this organization are disappointed and fear for their future.

In the announcement of Médecins Sans Frontières, it is stated that women constitute more than 51% of the medical staff of this organization in Afghanistan, which includes nearly 900 doctors, nurses and other employees.

This organization emphasized that with the decision of the Islamic Emirate to ban the work of women in domestic and foreign non-governmental organizations in Afghanistan, the future of female patients and female health workers in this country has been jeopardized.

Farzana, an employee of Doctors Without Borders, said: “In the hospital, we have many patients who are women. They need to have somewhere to go when they get sick or need to give birth. If the Islamic Emirate prevents female employees from working, no one will be able to take care of them.”

On the other hand, Doctors Without Borders has said that the health of a woman affects the health of her entire family, and if she does not have access to pre- and post-natal services, the lives of children are also at risk.

The MSF has strongly condemned the prohibition of women’s work in domestic and foreign non-governmental organizations in Afghanistan. This organization has called the restrictions imposed by the Islamic Emirate on Afghan women as “removal of women from social life”.

It should be mentioned that after stopping the work of women in non-governmental institutions by the Islamic Emirate, several international organizations have stopped their activities in Afghanistan.
