U.S. envoy meets Indian officials, Abdullah in New Delhi

MONITORING (SW) – The U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan, Thomas West, has held separate meetings with Abdullah Abdullah and the Indian officials in New Delhi.

In a series of tweets, the U.S. envoy said he held meetings with Indian colleagues in Delhi to discuss shared interests in Afghanistan. “As fellow friend of Afghan ppl, US deeply appreciates India’s generous humanitarian support and commitment to Afghans’ fundamental rights”, he tweeted.

He said his meeting with Abdullah Abdullah, former head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, about urgent need for national political dialogue among Afghans. “There is consensus in int’l community on this imperative, which Afghans must lead and shape”, he tweeted.

Thomas West has also traveled to Japan on a trip focused on Afghanistan and is going to visit the United Arab Emirates as well.
