KABUL (SW) – Japan’ Ambassador in Kabul, Okada Takashi has expressed Beijing ’s continued support for the Afghans in a meeting with Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, interim foreign minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Mr Muttaqi thanked Japan for the $106 million donation and positive diplomatic interaction, and called such interaction as “a roadmap for the international community”.
The ambassador of Japan in Kabul said in this meeting that his country is discussing with the international community how to lay the groundwork for economic progress in Afghanistan.
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Japan is still willing to increase its aid in order to provide an alternative livelihood for poppy, treatment of drug addicts and other sectors in Afghanistan.
Mr Okada has said that Japan will start its duty as a member of the Security Council next year, and therefore, it will try to play a good role in the Security Council regarding Afghanistan through an active mission.
Ambassador Okada also conveyed to Mr Muttaqi that good governance was required for the further international assistance and particularly emphasized the importance of girls’ education and media freedom for the future of Afghanistan.
On the other hand, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs appreciated Japan’s efforts in the recent meeting and requested to “transmit the positive message of the functions of the Islamic Emirate in preventing poppy cultivation, reducing administrative corruption, ensuring security and other matters”.
