KABUL (SW) – Afghan journalists and officials of media institutions say that despite the fact that almost one year has passed since the rule of the Islamic Emirate in the country, the restriction on access to information is still a challenge.
Participants of a meeting in this connection appreciated the activities of journalists and said that despite the fact that the officials of the Islamic Emirate had promised them that they would support the media activities in the country, no practical steps have been taken to support freedom of expression and journalists.
A journalist, Shireena Mohammadi, said that in the current system, restrictions on journalists, especially women, have increased, and she hopes that the problems in this area will be solved.
At the same time, Yasin Mateen, head of the National House of Journalists of Afghanistan, said that the Islamic Emirate must fulfill its commitments to journalists and media institutions in order to fulfill its responsibility towards journalists.
But the officials of the Islamic Emirate once again assured that they will solve the problems facing the work of journalists.
Mohajer Farahi, deputy director of broadcasting at the Ministry of Information and Culture, said that he does not want to be in conflict with the media and does not impose restrictions or censorship on them.
It is to be noted that with the coming to power of the Islamic Emirate, a ban has been imposed on the broadcasts and programs of a number of media houses.
On the other hand, Deputy Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior, Bismillah Habib, says that they are working on a coordination plan between the police and journalists, and with its implementation, the existing problems will be solved.
Although the Commission for Investigating Media Violations and Complaints has started its work for the past few months, but according to journalists, its activities are not enough to solve the problems of journalists and media.
