KABUL (SW) – There have been at least 1800 incidents of fire across the country, confirmed officials.

Officials of the General Directorate of Incidents and Firefighting at the Ministry of Interior said this at the opening ceremony of the fire-fighting balloons centre in Kabul. They said that efforts are being made to contain fires in the country and they say that in the past year, many fires have been contained.

Noorullah Ansar, the General Director of Incidents and Firefighting at the Ministry of Interior, told Salam Watandar that in the past year, more than 1,800 fire incidents have occurred throughout the country.

According to him, more than 900 of these incidents have occurred in Kabul and the rest in the country’s provinces, most of which have been contained.

“Since the beginning of the rule of the Islamic Emirate until now, we have had more than 1,800 fire incidents in the country and in Kabul, which, Alhamdulillah, we have contained most of them. We assure all our compatriots that efforts are underway to contain the fires in time and we ask all our citizens to cooperate with the government.”

The unplanned development of cities, disregarding safety orders in small and large urban buildings, lack of special safety laws, and issues in implementing regulations related to urban development are among the most important factors behind incidents of fire in the country.

Sami Deraei, director of law at the General Directorate of Incidents and Firefighting at the Ministry of Interior, said there are several types of fires.

“We have organic fires and we have metal fires and we have fires that are due to petroleum materials and liquid gas”, he said.

“Each of these has fire-fighting devices, and we contain and control organic fires with powders and oil fires with foam.”

This comes as the citizens are worried about the increase of fire incidents in the forests and city centres, and they ask the government to prevent it by implementing a mechanism and in case of a fire, to control it in time.
